CAT4 preparation checklist
The CAT4 measures reasoning, so preparation means familiarisation - knowing the four batteries, the timing and the question styles before the day. This checklist runs that plan across two calm weeks; it deliberately does not promise cramming, because cramming does not work here.
Two weeks before
- One practice session per battery: verbal, non-verbal, quantitative, spatial
- Play pattern and logic games on three evenings (genuine warm-ups)
- Confirm the test date, format (online/paper) and sessions with the school
Test week
- One timed mini-run per battery, 15 minutes each - no more
- Early nights: reasoning tests reward sleep more than revision
- Explain the stakes honestly: it helps the school teach them well
Test day
- Ordinary breakfast, ordinary morning routine
- Read every question twice - CAT4 punishes speed-panic
- Skip and return: one hard question is not worth the clock
Tutor tip: Familiarisation is legitimate; pressure is not. If results suggest reasoning gaps, targeted tutoring on the underlying skills is the response - not more test practice.
