Physics - online 1-to-1

Online physics tutoring

Physics marks are lost in two places: the maths (rearranging equations, units, significant figures) and the explanations (six-mark answers that need the right physics words in the right order). A specialist physics tutor fixes both, one topic at a time, with past-paper questions from your child's own exam board.

Physics at every level we teach

At GCSE, AQA Physics (8463) is assessed by two papers of 1 hour 45 minutes, each worth 100 marks and 50% of the grade, at Foundation or Higher tier. Paper 1 covers energy, electricity, the particle model and atomic structure; Paper 2 covers forces, waves, magnetism and space physics.

A-Level, IB and AP Physics build the same ideas into calculus-free and calculus-based mechanics, fields and quantum physics. At university the step up is the mathematics: vectors, differential equations and linear algebra applied to physical problems.

How a physics session runs

Each class starts with a short check of last week's topic, then one new idea taught with worked examples, then exam questions the student answers on their own while the tutor watches the method. Homework is a handful of past-paper questions, marked at the start of the next class.

A typical term of physics tutoring

  1. 1

    Weeks 1-2

Diagnostic on the current topics and the maths skills physics leans on.

  2. 2

    Weeks 3-8

One weak topic a week: teach, worked examples, then timed exam questions.

  3. 3

    Weeks 9-10

Required practicals and the data-handling questions written about them.

  4. 4

    Weeks 11-12

A timed paper section, marked against the mark scheme, then fix the gaps.

Common questions

Which physics courses do your tutors teach?๏ผ‹

GCSE and IGCSE, A-Level, IB, AP Physics 1, 2 and C, Australian and New Zealand senior physics, and first- and second-year university physics.

My child is fine at physics but weak at the maths. Can a tutor help?๏ผ‹

Yes, and that is the most common reason families come to us. Tutors practise rearranging equations, units and standard form inside physics questions, which is where the marks are lost.

How long is the AQA GCSE Physics exam?๏ผ‹

Two papers of 1 hour 45 minutes, each worth 100 marks and half of the GCSE.

Do you cover required practicals?๏ผ‹

Yes. Tutors go through the method, the variables and the data analysis for each one, because written exam questions are set on them.

Can we try a lesson first?๏ผ‹

Yes. Every family gets two free 30-minute demo classes before choosing a plan.
