KS2 SATs week checklist
By SATs week, the preparation is done - what is left is protecting sleep, routines and calm so your ten-year-old can show what they know. This checklist runs Monday to Friday of SATs week with the small logistics that quietly decide how children feel walking in.
The weekend before
- No papers this weekend - rest beats cramming at age ten
- Early nights: same bedtime as school nights, devices out of bedrooms
- Check with school which tests run on which days
Each morning
- Ordinary breakfast (nothing new or heavy)
- Walk or move a little - it settles nerves better than reassurance
- One line only: try your best, and it will not decide your life
After each paper
- No post-mortems: move on to the next day immediately
- Plan something to look forward to after the final paper
- Tell them honestly: year six SATs matter to the school more than to them
Tutor tip: SATs week runs best when it feels ordinary. If your child needs ground made up before Year 7, that is a Year 6 summer or Year 7 job - tutoring then is worth more than panic now.
