Entry points and deadlines
Applications for Year 9 entry in 2028 open in March 2027 through ACER. Students apply in Year 8 and rank their preferred selective schools.
Mac.Rob takes 300 Year 9 students a year through the selective entry exam.
In Years 10 and 11 it accepts only as many students as it has places, generally 10 to 20, through an EduTest exam and interview. The school held its enrolment information night in late March in 2026.
Testing
Year 9 places at all four Victorian selective entry high schools come from one ACER exam sat in Year 8: Mathematics and Quantitative Reasoning (60 minutes), Reading and Verbal Reasoning (55 minutes) and Writing (40 minutes). A student can sit the Year 9 exam only once.
About 1,000 Year 9 places are offered across the four schools each year: 85% on exam rank, up to 10% under equity consideration and up to 5% at the principal's discretion.

How to prepare
- ✓ Use Year 7 to build reading stamina and vocabulary, then start timed exam practice in Year 8.
- ✓ Balance the three parts: a weak Writing task can pull down a strong maths result.
- ✓ Attend the information night and a school tour before ranking schools.
- ✓ Keep a Year 10 entry in mind as a second route if Year 9 does not work out.
