Selection Index (48-228)
195
Total score: 1300 of 1520
How the index works
The PSAT/NMSQT reports a Reading and Writing score and a Math score, each from 160 to 760. The Selection Index doubles the Reading and Writing score, adds the Math score and divides by 10, giving a number from 48 to 228. National Merit Scholarship Corporation uses it to identify Commended Students and, state by state, Semifinalists.
Common questions
How is the PSAT Selection Index calculated?
Double the Reading and Writing score, add the Math score and divide by 10. Scores of 720 and 700 give (2 x 720 + 700) / 10 = 214.
What is the Selection Index range?
From 48 to 228. Reading and Writing counts twice as much as Math.
What Selection Index do I need for National Merit?
Semifinalist cutoffs are set state by state each year by National Merit Scholarship Corporation; ask your school counselor for your state's figure.
