How the AP Microeconomics exam works

The 2027 AP Microeconomics exam is on Tuesday 4 May 2027 (afternoon) and lasts 2 hours 10 minutes. Multiple choice: 60 questions in 1 hour 10 minutes (66% of the score). Free response: 3 questions in 1 hour including a 10-minute reading period: 1 long, 2 short (33% of the score).

College Board doesn't publish the raw-score cut-offs for each AP score, so tutors track progress with released questions and the official scoring guidelines.

Where students lose points

Free response asks you to draw and label graphs: practise axes, curves and equilibrium points.

Explain each step of a cause-and-effect chain, not just the final outcome.

Use the 10-minute reading period to plan the long question, worth half the section.
