How GCSE Chemistry is examined
AQA GCSE Chemistry (8462) has two written papers of 1 hour 45 minutes. Each is worth 100 marks and 50% of the grade, and both are set at Foundation and Higher tier. Paper 1 covers topics 1 to 5 and Paper 2 topics 6 to 10.
There is no coursework, but students complete eight required practicals in school, and exam questions test the method, the variables and the results.
Combined or separate science?
Separate Chemistry is a full GCSE on its own; Combined Science covers less chemistry and awards two grades across all three sciences. If your child takes Combined Science, our GCSE Science tutors cover all three in one plan.
