The Bexley 11+ (Bexley Selection Test)

Bexley's four grammar schools use one test, the Bexley Selection Test, for about 800 Year 7 places. It is open to children wherever they live, but registration closes much earlier than in most areas: in March of Year 5.

- โ 800 places in total for September 2027; the top 180 scorers are guaranteed a place, and most others are offered by distance
The test
Two multiple-choice booklets, each about 50 minutes, taken in one session. They cover verbal ability and English comprehension, numerical reasoning (no harder than the end of Year 5) and non-verbal reasoning. The test provider is Quest Assessments, and familiarisation material is on the Quest website.
About 30% of applicants reach the selective standard, set by the grammar school headteachers. If places remain, children one mark below are considered next, then two marks below.
Dates for September 2027 entry
- โ 1 to 31 March 2026: registration (no late registrations or appeals)
- โ From 3 August 2026: test centre and time by email
- โ 2 to 10 September 2026: tests at participating Bexley primary schools; 7 to 10 September at the four grammar schools
- โ Results by email before the 31 October application deadline
Preparing for the Bexley test
- โ Register in March of Year 5, months before most other areas; set a reminder now
- โ Practise all three areas: verbal ability and comprehension, numerical reasoning and non-verbal reasoning
- โ Use the Quest familiarisation material so the booklet layout and timing feel familiar
- โ Check clashes: Sutton and Medway tests can fall on the same dates, and Bexley won't move its date
For September 2028 entry
Based on the 2026 pattern, expect registration from 1 to 31 March 2027, test centre details in early August and tests in early September 2027.
