The International Baccalaureate is not one qualification but a continuum of three programmes spanning ages 3 to 19 โ and parents meeting it for the first time are expected to decode all three at once. How assessment changes at each stage
The PYP has no exams at all: teachers assess continuously against the programme's outcomes, so report cards describe development rather than rank children. The MYP introduces criterion-referenced grading โ transparent, published descriptors, but school-moderated โ with optional externally marked eAssessment in the final year. The Diploma then switches to the model families know: externally set and marked exams plus coursework, with grades that carry university weight worldwide.
That progression is deliberate: inquiry habits first, transparent structure second, formal rigour last.
