The Wirral 11+

Children who want a place at one of Wirral's non-Catholic grammar schools sit one assessment, run for the Wirral Consortium and provided by Quest Assessments. Practise in Quest's format, which the provider describes on its website.
The assessment
Two papers on the same day, with questions on verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning and mathematics. There are no long written answers. All children sit it at a test venue, told to families by the end of August. The assessment can only be taken once; a child who is ill is offered another session.
Dates for September 2027 entry
- โ 12 noon on 1 June 2026: registration closed (late forms only for families who moved to Wirral afterwards)
- โ Tuesday 15 September 2026: assessment
- โ Results before the 31 October 2026 application deadline
Support
Pupils eligible for free school meals can get free online preparation resources for Years 3 to 6, provided with the Wirral Consortium through Atom Learning. Access arrangements, such as 25% extra time or a smaller room, must reflect what the child normally has at school; readers and scribes aren't provided.
Preparing for the Wirral assessment
- โ Practise verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning and maths in short timed sets
- โ There's no long writing, so focus on speed and accuracy with multiple-choice answers
- โ Check whether your child qualifies for the free online resources for pupils eligible for free school meals
- โ Ask for access arrangements on the registration form, with evidence less than two years old
For September 2028 entry
Based on the 2026 pattern, expect registration to close around the end of May or 1 June 2027, with the assessment in mid-September 2027.
