How it is assessed

Under the 2026-2028 syllabus, Paper 1, Computer Systems (1 hour 45 minutes, 75 marks), covers topics 1-6, and Paper 2, Algorithms, Programming and Logic (1 hour 45 minutes, 75 marks), covers topics 7-10 and includes a scenario-based question. Each is worth 50%, and calculators are not permitted.

Where marks are lost

Marked papers show the same patterns year after year:

• ✓ Pseudocode that does not follow the expected conventions
• ✓ Trace tables completed carelessly
• ✓ Binary and hexadecimal conversions without working
• ✓ Theory answers that are too vague for the marks
• ✓ The scenario question left unfinished

No calculators are permitted in either paper.
