Online IGCSE tutoring
IGCSEs are the international school standard, and their exam-series rhythm (May/June and October/November) rewards steady past-paper work far more than last-minute cramming. Our tutors teach the exact Cambridge or Edexcel specification your school follows.

Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel: start with the syllabus code
Two boards set most IGCSEs. Cambridge International offers more than 70 IGCSE subjects for students aged 14 to 16, graded A* to G, with 9-1 graded versions of some subjects. Pearson Edexcel's International GCSEs are graded 9 to 1, like UK GCSEs.
Even in the same subject, the two boards' papers differ in structure, question style and mark scheme, so the syllabus code on your child's timetable decides which past papers they should practise. We match a tutor who teaches that exact code.
Tiers decide the top grade
Many Cambridge IGCSE subjects are tiered. Core papers lead to grades C to G and Extended papers to A* to E, so a student aiming for an A or A* must sit Extended. In Pearson Edexcel International GCSE maths, Foundation tier covers grades 5 to 1 and Higher tier grades 9 to 4.
We advise on the tier after marked papers at both levels, together with the school's view, because a late switch to the higher tier leaves little time to cover the extra content.
Exam series and resits
Cambridge runs its main IGCSE series in May/June and October/November, with a March series for schools in India; results follow in August, January and May respectively. Pearson Edexcel International GCSEs are sat in May/June and November.
A student who misses a grade in the summer can usually resit in the autumn series, which leaves a few months to rebuild the weakest topics. Resit plans start from a marked past paper, not from a restart of the whole course.
Where IGCSE marks are lost
The same habits cost marks across boards and subjects:
- โ Working not shown on multi-mark maths questions
- โ Science answers that miss the key term the mark scheme rewards
- โ Command words ignored: 'describe', 'explain' and 'suggest' ask for different answers
- โ English responses that summarise instead of analysing language and structure
- โ Too little time left for the longest, highest-mark questions
IGCSE Maths: Cambridge 0580 or Pearson Edexcel 4MA1?
| Feature | Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (0580) | Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Maths A (4MA1) |
|---|---|---|
| Grading | A* to G (0980 is the 9-1 version) | 9 to 1 |
| Tiers | Core (grades C-G) or Extended (A*-E) | Foundation (grades 5-1) or Higher (9-4) |
| Papers | Core: Papers 1 and 3, 1h 30m and 80 marks each. Extended: Papers 2 and 4, 2h and 100 marks each | Two papers per tier, 2h and 100 marks each |
| Calculator | Papers 1 and 2 are non-calculator; Papers 3 and 4 need a calculator | Calculator allowed on both papers |
| Exam series | May/June and October/November (plus March in India) | May/June and November |
From the Cambridge 2025-2027 syllabus and the Pearson specification. Cambridge also offers International Mathematics (0607) and Pearson a modular version of 4MA1, so check the code on your child's timetable.

Common questions
Is iGCSE tutoring different from GCSE tutoring?๏ผ
The overlap is large but the papers differ: IGCSE specs have their own topic lists, paper structures and exam series. We plan sessions around the Cambridge or Edexcel code your school gives you, not a generic GCSE syllabus.
Can you help with October/November resits?๏ผ
Yes. Resit plans start from a diagnostic past paper, rebuild the two or three weakest topics, and run timed papers weekly through to the series. Private-candidate entry logistics are well-trodden ground for us.
What do sessions cost?๏ผ
Every class is one-to-one, and the price depends on the level and how many classes you book each month; the current IGCSE price is shown near the top of this page. Two free demo classes come first.
What is the difference between Core and Extended?๏ผ
They are the two tiers in many Cambridge IGCSE subjects. Core covers less content and leads to grades C to G; Extended covers the full syllabus and leads to A* to E. Students aiming for an A or A* must sit Extended.
When are IGCSE results released?๏ผ
Results for the May/June series come out in August. Cambridge's October/November results follow in January, and its March series (for schools in India) in May.
