Opportunity Class (OC) test tutoring for NSW families
The OC test is the Year 4 gateway to Opportunity Classes in NSW public schools, and it rewards exactly the skills one-to-one tutoring builds: reading stamina, mathematical reasoning and flexible thinking under time pressure. Preparation starts gently in Year 3 and builds through Year 4.

Common questions
When should OC preparation start?+
Light foundations in Year 3 (reading volume, number sense, puzzles) with structured weekly practice through Year 4. Applications run during Year 4 and the test sits mid-year for Year 5 entry, so a term-three start in Year 3 is comfortable.
Is OC prep different from NAPLAN prep?+
Yes. NAPLAN measures grade-level bands; the OC test selects for the top slice with reasoning questions well above grade level. The practice materials, pacing and question style all differ, which is why dedicated preparation beats general tutoring for this one.
