Queensland - QCE, online 1-to-1
What every programme includes
- ✓ Chemical equilibrium and acids and bases
- ✓ Oxidation, reduction and electrochemical cells
- ✓ Organic structure, reactions and synthesis
- ✓ IA1 data test practice
- ✓ IA2 experiment and IA3 investigation feedback
- ✓ External exam practice with the formula and data book
Lesson times in your time zone
Weekdays 3pm-9pm after school · Weekends 8am-8pm, your local time. Pick the slot when you book.
What Units 3 and 4 cover
Unit 3, Equilibrium, acids and redox reactions, covers chemical equilibrium systems and oxidation and reduction. Unit 4, Structure, synthesis and design, covers the properties and structure of organic materials and chemical synthesis and design, including analytical techniques such as chromatography, electrophoresis and spectra.
How it is assessed
IA1 is a data test (10%): 60 minutes' working time on unseen data. IA2 is a student experiment (20%) and IA3 a research investigation (20%), written up to 2000 words or presented multimodally up to 11 minutes.
The external exam (50%) has two papers of 90 minutes each, with 5 minutes' perusal, a QCAA-approved graphics or scientific calculator and the QCAA formula and data book. In 2026 both papers are on Friday 30 October.
Where marks are lost
The same patterns show up in marked work every year:
- ✓ Equilibrium shifts explained without reasoning
- ✓ Redox half-equations not balanced
- ✓ Organic naming and reaction pathways
- ✓ Data test answers that describe instead of analyse
- ✓ Experiment reports with weak evaluation
QCE Chemistry assessment, Units 3 and 4
| Assessment | Format | Weighting |
|---|---|---|
| IA1 | Data test, 60 min | 10% |
| IA2 | Student experiment | 20% |
| IA3 | Research investigation | 20% |
| External | Two papers, 90 min each | 50% |
Through Units 3 and 4

Term 1
Unit 3 content with exam-style questions every week, and the first internal assessment.
- 2
Term 2
Preparation for the Unit 3 internal assessment, then the start of Unit 4.
- 3
Term 3
The Unit 4 internal assessment and the first full practice papers.
- 4
Term 4
Timed Paper 1 and Paper 2 practice, back to back, before the external exam.
