Most 11+ results arrive in October of Year 6, just before the 31 October 2026 deadline for secondary school applications. These are the dates for the main grammar areas for September 2027 entry.

Results dates by area

Dates for September 2027 entry; check your council or consortium for any change:

✓ Buckinghamshire Secondary Transfer Test: test 10 September 2026, results 9 October 2026; the qualifying score is 121
✓ Essex (CSSE): results emailed from 12 October 2026
✓ Kent Test: results on 15 October 2026
✓ Trafford consortium: results by 31 October 2026 through the admissions portal; the qualifying score was 334 at each school

What to do with the result

Your secondary school application (the common application form) goes to your home council by 31 October 2026, and places are offered on 1 March 2027. A qualifying score makes a child eligible for a grammar place; it does not guarantee one, because popular schools are oversubscribed and then apply their own admission criteria such as distance or score order.

Rank schools in your genuine order of preference: listing a grammar school first does not reduce your chances at the schools below it.

If the score falls short

Most areas have a review or appeal process, and some grammar schools admit students at 12+ or into the sixth form. Strong GCSE results also open grammar sixth forms, so a missed 11+ is not the end of selective options.
