The Trafford consortium test is changing
For September 2027 entry, the consortium test was set by GL: two papers of about an hour each, covering verbal, non-verbal and mathematical skills, with a qualifying score of 334 at every consortium school.
For September 2028 entry, a new provider, Future Stories Community Enterprise, sets the test sat in September 2027. It draws on the Key Stage 2 English and maths national curriculum up to the end of Year 5, instead of reasoning papers. Children now in Year 5 are the first to sit it.
What that means for preparation
Reasoning puzzles matter less; secure, fast Key Stage 2 English and maths matter more. Preparation now looks like stretched Year 5 work done accurately under time pressure: arithmetic and problem solving in maths, and comprehension, grammar and vocabulary in English.
St Ambrose College and Loreto Grammar School are not part of the consortium. Each sets its own entrance test with its own registration, so families applying to them as well register twice.
