HSPT admissions in Chicago
Registration for the HSPT opens on 13 November 2026. Because each student can sit the exam at only one Catholic high school, families should choose their first-choice school before registering.
The HSPT has 298 questions in five sections in about 2 hours 23 minutes, and many schools use the results for placement and scholarships as well as admission.
How the HSPT works
The HSPT has five sections and 298 multiple-choice questions in about 2 hours 23 minutes: Verbal Skills (60 questions in 16 minutes), Quantitative Skills (52 in 30), Reading (62 in 25), Mathematics (64 in 45) and Language (60 in 25).
