IB TOK tutoring
TOK confuses strong students because it rewards a kind of thinking few subjects teach directly: questioning how we know what we claim to know. Our tutors coach the argument and structure of the essay and exhibition; the writing stays the student's own.

How it is assessed
TOK has two components. The essay, up to 1,600 words on one of six prescribed titles set by the IB for each session, is externally marked and worth two thirds. The exhibition, three objects linked to one prompt with a commentary of up to 950 words, is marked by the teacher, moderated by the IB and worth one third. The result is a grade from A to E, which combines with the Extended Essay to give up to 3 Diploma points; an E means no Diploma.
Where marks are lost
Marked work shows the same patterns year after year:
- ✓ Essays that discuss the topic instead of knowledge about it
- ✓ Examples that are general or hypothetical
- ✓ Counterclaims raised but not evaluated
- ✓ Exhibition objects that do not clearly link to the prompt
- ✓ Running over the word limit
