Leaving Cert grinds online
College places in Ireland come down to CAO points from your six best Leaving Cert subjects, so every grade band matters. Our tutors work subject by subject on the papers and, from 2027, on the new coursework components, in Irish evening slots.

How CAO points work
CAO counts the six best results in recognised subjects from one sitting of the Leaving Certificate. A Higher Level H1 is worth 100 points and an H7 37; an Ordinary Level O1 is worth 56. Higher Level Mathematics adds 25 bonus points for an H6 or better, so an H6 in Higher maths is worth 71.
Because only six subjects count, moving one subject up a grade band is often the cheapest way to gain points.
What changes in 2027
The redeveloped senior cycle starts with seven subjects, including Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Business, for students who began fifth year in September 2025. At least 40% of the marks in those subjects come from an additional assessment component completed during the year, so the June written exam counts for 60%. These students sit their exams in June 2027.
CAO points by grade
| Grade | Higher Level | Ordinary Level |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 100 (H1) | 56 (O1) |
| 2 | 88 (H2) | 46 (O2) |
| 3 | 77 (H3) | 37 (O3) |
| 4 | 66 (H4) | 28 (O4) |
| 5 | 56 (H5) | 20 (O5) |
| 6 | 46 (H6) | 12 (O6) |
| 7 | 37 (H7) | 0 (O7) |
| 8 | 0 (H8) | 0 (O8) |
Higher Level Mathematics adds 25 bonus points for H6 and above. The six best results from one sitting count.
