How UCAT ANZ works
UCAT ANZ has four subtests and takes just under two hours: Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning and Situational Judgement. There is no negative marking, and results are emailed within 24 hours of the test.
Unlike the UK test, UCAT ANZ reports Situational Judgement on the same 300 to 900 scale as the other subtests.
Who uses it
Universities in the UCAT ANZ Consortium use it for undergraduate medicine and dentistry, including the University of Adelaide (medicine, dental surgery and oral health), Monash University (medicine), UNSW (medicine), the University of Auckland (medicine) and the University of Otago (medicine and dentistry). Check the consortium list for every course that requires it.
Fitting it around Year 12
The test window falls in the middle of Year 12 in Australia, between Term 2 assessments and trial exams. Most of the method work needs to be done before the window opens, so that July is about timed practice rather than learning question types for the first time.
- ✓ Keep UCAT practice short and frequent during school terms.
- ✓ Book a test date that avoids trial exams and major assessments.
- ✓ Use the mid-year holidays for full timed mocks.
