October SAT prep plan

7 min read · updated 2026-09-23

The 3 October 2026 Digital SAT is one of the highest-stakes autumn sittings. If registration is done and the calendar is short, you need a plan that fits the weeks left, not a generic six-month curriculum.

If you have about 8 weeks

Run a Standard package: roughly 24 one-to-one hours at 2-3 sessions per week, plus two full Bluebook practice tests. Week 1 is diagnostic and error-log setup. Weeks 2-6 rebuild weak skills. Weeks 7-8 are timed mocks and pacing only.

  • 2-3 tutoring sessions per week (50-60 minutes)
  • Bluebook full practice in weeks 3 and 7
  • Daily 25-40 minutes of targeted practice on misses

If you have about 4 weeks

Switch to Light or a compressed Standard: 10-16 tutoring hours focused on the two or three error patterns that cost the most points. Do one full timed practice in week 2 and one in the final week. Do not start new content domains in the last ten days.

What to stop doing

Stop random YouTube playlists without an error log. Stop paper-only practice that ignores Bluebook tools. Stop chasing every weak topic equally; rank misses by frequency on recent section scores.

FAQs

Can we still improve in four weeks?

Yes for pacing, careless errors and a few recurring skills. Large foundational gaps need more time or a later sitting.

Should we cancel October and wait for November?

If the diagnostic is far below the target and stress is high, November with a proper Standard block is often wiser than a rushed October.
