Selective entry in NSW
NSW has 17 fully selective high schools, 27 partially selective high schools and 4 selective agricultural high schools, with 4,338 Year 7 places between them. Students sit the computer-based Selective High School Placement Test in Year 6: Reading, Mathematical Reasoning, Thinking Skills and Writing, each worth a quarter of the score.
The 2026 HSC
The 2026 HSC written exams run from 13 October to 5 November, with the Mathematics Standard and Advanced papers on Monday 19 October. Results are released on Wednesday 16 December 2026. Each HSC mark combines the exam with the school's moderated assessment mark, half each.
