How it is assessed

The current HSC Physics exam is 3 hours, worth 100 marks: 20 multiple-choice marks and 80 marks of short and extended responses across Modules 5 to 8.

NSW has released new 11-12 science syllabuses (2025); check with your child's school which syllabus their HSC year follows.

Scaling and the ATAR

In the 2025 HSC, Physics had a mean HSC mark of 37.0 and a mean scaled mark of 31.0 out of 50.

Where marks are lost
