Three A-Level routes in Dubai's sixth forms

Dubai's British-curriculum sixth forms teach one of three routes, and some use different boards for different subjects. Cambridge International AS & A Levels can be staged, with AS exams in Year 12 carried forward to the full A Level. Pearson Edexcel International A Levels (IAL) are modular: units are sat during the course in the January, May/June or October series, and individual units can be resat. UK A-Levels from AQA, OCR or Pearson Edexcel are linear, with every exam at the end of Year 13.

Each route needs a different revision rhythm, so we plan around the papers or units your child is entered for in each series.

Predicted grades and the UCAS deadlines

For 2027 entry, applications to Oxford, Cambridge and most medicine, dentistry and veterinary courses are due by 15 October 2026, and applications for most other courses by 13 January 2027. Universities see predicted grades, which schools set largely from Year 12 work, so Year 12 is when a weaker subject needs attention.

Where A-Level marks are lost

The step up from IGCSE catches out strong students in predictable places:

• ✓ Practical and data-analysis questions in the sciences

Year 12 to results day

1. 1

   Year 12, autumn

   Bridge the gap from IGCSE, especially algebra for maths and quantitative skills for the sciences.

2. 2

   Year 12, January-June

   First IAL units or AS papers, depending on the route, and the end-of-year exams that inform predicted grades.

3. 3

   Year 13, autumn

   UCAS applications: mid-October for Oxford, Cambridge and medicine, mid-January for most other courses.

4. 4

   Year 13, spring

   Mocks and timed past papers, with unit resits planned only where they raise the overall grade.

5. 5

   Summer

   Final exams in May and June; results in August.
