SCH4U Grade 12 Chemistry tutoring
SCH4U is required or recommended for most health science, life science and engineering programs, and it is a big step up from Grade 11. Our tutors work through each unit with your child, with clear explanations and plenty of calculation practice.

What SCH4U covers
The course has a skills strand (scientific investigation skills and career exploration) and five content strands: Organic Chemistry, Structure and Properties of Matter, Energy Changes and Rates of Reaction, Chemical Systems and Equilibrium, and Electrochemistry. The prerequisite is Grade 11 Chemistry (SCH3U).
Where marks are lost
Most students find two units hardest:
- ✓ Equilibrium: ICE tables, Ksp, pH and buffers
- ✓ Electrochemistry: balancing redox equations and cell potentials
- ✓ Thermochemistry calculations with Hess's law
- ✓ Explaining properties from intermolecular forces in words
How the course is marked
In every Ontario Grade 12 course, 70% of the final mark comes from evaluations through the semester and 30% from a final evaluation, which can be an exam, a culminating task or both. Universities see the final percentage, so steady unit-test marks matter as much as the exam.
