MHF4U Advanced Functions tutoring
MHF4U is the Grade 12 course most Ontario university programs in science, engineering, business and health ask for, and the gateway to Calculus and Vectors. It moves fast through four families of functions. Our tutors follow your child's school units and fix gaps before each unit test.

What MHF4U covers
The Ontario curriculum sets four strands: Exponential and Logarithmic Functions, Trigonometric Functions, Polynomial and Rational Functions, and Characteristics of Functions. The prerequisite is Grade 11 Functions (MCR3U).
Most marks are lost on algebra rather than ideas: solving logarithmic equations, proving trigonometric identities, and factoring higher-degree polynomials. Those are the skills sessions drill until they are automatic.
How the course is marked
In every Ontario Grade 12 course, 70% of the final mark comes from evaluations through the semester and 30% from a final evaluation, which can be an exam, a culminating task or both. Universities see the final percentage, so steady unit-test marks matter as much as the exam.
Where students struggle
The same topics come up in most first sessions:
- ✓ Laws of logarithms and changing base
- ✓ Radian measure and the unit circle without a calculator
- ✓ Trigonometric identities: knowing which identity to try first
- ✓ Polynomial and rational inequalities with sign charts
- ✓ Rates of change from tables, graphs and equations

Common questions
What is the prerequisite for MHF4U?+
Grade 11 Functions, University Preparation (MCR3U).
Do I need MHF4U for MCV4U?+
Yes. Advanced Functions must be taken before or at the same time as Calculus and Vectors.
Which university programs need MHF4U?+
Most science, engineering, business, computer science and health programs list it; check each program on its admissions page.
How much is the MHF4U exam worth?+
The final evaluation is 30% of the course mark; the other 70% comes from work during the semester.
Can tutoring follow my child's school units?+
Yes. Sessions follow the school's order of units and test dates, using the student's own notes and tests.
