What SPH4U covers
The content strands are Dynamics; Energy and Momentum; Gravitational, Electric, and Magnetic Fields; The Wave Nature of Light; and Revolutions in Modern Physics: Quantum Mechanics and Special Relativity. The prerequisite is Grade 11 Physics (SPH3U).
Where marks are lost
The common problems are method, not memory:

- ✓ Choosing between energy and momentum methods
- ✓ Field problems with vectors in two dimensions
- ✓ Two-slit and diffraction-grating calculations
- ✓ Explaining modern physics ideas in clear words
How the course is marked
In every Ontario Grade 12 course, 70% of the final mark comes from evaluations through the semester and 30% from a final evaluation, which can be an exam, a culminating task or both. Universities see the final percentage, so steady unit-test marks matter as much as the exam.
